The death of Legendary South African gospel musician, song writer and preacher Lionel Peterson at 74, after battling with long-term health issues, was a big lose to friends and family.
Lionel Peterson died on Thursday the 14th of July. SelahAfrik had reported on the health issues of the singer in 2017, saying that he needs assistance. This came after the post made by Producer, Wilson Joel aka, Music Magnate.
The late gospel singer, doubled as a serving pastor at Rhema Church. He was popularly known for his special Folk gospel music style.
It was as a result of him yielding himself to his call at his local church that he ordained a pastor. He released his first single “Come Back Liza” and it has received an award in South Africa.
Lionel Peterson was a member of Thunderballs band and later became a member of a unique group named The Miracles in 1969. He also joined a Soweto group as he later joined the Rhema Church, where he recorded many of his songs and album.
Lionel actually retired from performing since 2016 due to his health challenges. Although the cause of death has not been revealed by his family or friends, As Lionel Peterson dies, he leaves behind a musical legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
